Product development
A smaller, quieter drive unit developed around an existing motor envelope. Three prototype rounds reduced assembly count while improving service access.
Test engineering
Designed and built an automated fixture for repeated load testing of a latch mechanism.

IP-rated enclosure for electronics used outdoors year-round.
The interesting part wasn't keeping the rain out. It was dealing with heat once the enclosure was sealed.
Early development
CAD is useful once the problem is understood. Before that, a pencil is faster.
How I tend to work
Find the actual constraint before designing around it.
Foam, plywood, printed plastic, rough machining — whatever answers the question fastest.
A prototype that only “feels better” has not finished its job.
Simplify parts, tolerances, assembly and service.
About
I like problems that exist in the physical world: things that vibrate, wear out, get hot, don't fit, cost too much to make, or fail in ways nobody expected.
Most of my work sits somewhere between CAD and a workbench.
